Punjab by-elections: PTI wins 15 out of 20 seats in the Punjab by-elections, while PML-N wins four |
The Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) camp is jubilant after unofficial results from the
by-election in Punjab's 20 constituencies showed that PTI, led by former prime
minister Imran Khan, won the by-elections with the support of the province's
voters.
The Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is led by the former prime minister, won 15 seats,
while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) only managed to win four.
Additionally, one independent candidate was successful.
While voting
started at 8 am and went until 5 pm, there were some districts where voting was
suspended due to fighting.
It is important
to note that the 20 seats became empty after the Election Commission of
Pakistan (ECP) "deseated" 25 PTI dissident members on May 23 for
supporting Hamza Shahbaz of the PML-N in the election for Punjab chief
minister. This includes five lawmakers who were chosen for seats designated for
women and people of colour.
Twenty Punjab
Assembly constituencies, including PP-7 Rawalpindi, PP-83 Khushab, PP-90
Bhakkar, PP-97 Faisalabad, PP-125, PP-127 Jhang, PP-140 Sheikhupura, PP-158,
167,168,170 Lahore, PP-202 Sahiwa, PP-217 Multan, PP-224 Lodhran, PP-228 Lodhran
PP-237 Bahawalnagar, PP-288 Dera Ghazi Khan, PP-272,273 Muzaffargarh, and PP-282
Layyah.
2.46 million
women were among the 4.57 million registered voters who may cast a ballot in
the by-elections. Over the course of the 20 seats, 3140 polling locations had
been set up, including 700 female, 731 male and 1700 hybrid polling
locations.
For the
by-polls, a total of 9,562 polling places had been arranged. 1204 polling
places were deemed sensitive by the ECP, and 696 were deemed highly sensitive.
Additionally,
crucial voting locations from Multan and Lahore had been designated. Saeed Gul,
the provincial election commissioner, asserted that the Election Commission was
totally impartial, that the charges were untrue, and that it operated in
accordance with the Constitution and the law.
With 68,906
votes, Raja Sagheer of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N) triumphed over Col.
M. With 68,857 votes, Shabbir Awan of the (PTI) came in second.
With 48,475
votes to Independent Asif Malik Bha's 41,752 votes, PTI candidate Hassan Aslam
Malik won the election.
With 68,982
votes, Irfan Ullah Niazi of the (PTI) won.With 59,856 votes, Saeed Akbar Nawani
of the (PML-N) came in second.
Faisalabad
PP-97
With 66,672
votes, Ali Afzal Sahi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) defeated Muhammad
Ajmal Cheema of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who received 54,077
votes, to win the election.
Faisyal Hayat
Jabboana of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) received 52,178 votes,
while Mian Azam Chela of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) received 82,382
votes.
Jhang, PP-127
Mehar Aslam
Bharwana of the (PML-N), who garnered 46,825 votes, was defeated by Mehar Nawaz
Bharwana of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received 69,986 votes.
Mian Khalid of
the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz got 6,546 votes, while Khurram Shahzad of the
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) received 49,734 votes.
Lahore PP-158
Rana Ahsan
Sharafat of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who garnered 31,906
votes, was defeated in the election by Mian Akram Usman of the Pakistan
Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received 37,463 votes.
Nazir Ahmed
Chohan of the (PML-N), who garnered 26,535 votes, came in second to
Shabbir Ahmed Gujjar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received 40,206
votes.
Lahore PP- 168
With 26,174
votes, Malik Asad Khokhar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) defeated
Nawaz Awan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who garnered 15,719 votes.
Amin Zulqarnain
of the (PML-N), who garnered 14,916 votes, was defeated in the election
by Malik Zaheer Abbas of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received
23,969 votes.
Sahiwal
PP-202
Malik Nauman
Langrial of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) came in second with 59,167
votes, trailing PTI's Ghulam Sarwar by 61,989 votes.
Makhdoom Zain
Qureshi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the election with 46,427
votes, defeating Muhammad Salman Naeem of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N), who received only 40,285.
Lodhran PP-224
Zawar Hussain
Warraich of the (PML-N), who garnered 55,748 votes, was defeated by Amir
Iqbal Shah of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received 69,625 votes.
Izzat Javaid of
the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who received 34,635 votes, came in second
to independent candidate Rafi Ud Din Bukhari with 42,719 votes.
Bahawalnagar,
PP-237
Syed Aftab Raza
of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who garnered 25,227 votes, lost to Fida
Hussain Wattoo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who received 61,248
votes.
With 49,823
votes, Moazzam Ali Jatoi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) defeated Zehra
Basit Bukhari of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who got 42,995
votes, to win the election.
Yasir Arfat
Jatoi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could only muster 46,903 votes,
losing to Muhammad Sibtain Raza of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N),
who won with 52,631.
With 43,922
votes, Qasier Abbas Magsi of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) defeated
Muhammad Tahir Randhawa of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who
garnered 29,715 votes, to win the election.
Dera Ghazi Khan
PP-288
With 56,857
votes, Saifuddin Khosa of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) defeated Abdul
Qadir Khosa of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who garnered 33,254
votes, to win the election.
